Taken to a circuit two months after purchase. Forgetting that it had no ABS meant full lock-up from the first lap, and the flat spots caused heavy vibration; it never went to a circuit again after that. Note: on the original text's “92 Renault Clio Williams”, the Clio Williams went on sale in 1993 (the point that it is based on the Clio 16V is itself correct).
Renault Clio 16V, Twin Ring Motegi Two months after buying the Renault at the end of December 2003, I took it to a circuit for a let's-see-then. The Clio 16V that was the basis for the 1992 Renault Clio Williams With a roll bar in it and a Devil exhaust, lovely French flavour, a keen little 1600! Out of the pits on lap 1 in my usual way, off we go and disaster on the straight before the tunnel・・・・・ In my usual way I hit the brakes around the 150M board and the car suddenly goes sideways A Porsche in front A Ferrari behind Errrrr, why? Thinking that, I get out of it without spinning and then it dawns on me "No ABS! The lock-up instantly put flat spots all over the tyres, and a massive vibration. It reminds me of a tractor I once drove in Akita. My braking, completely spoiled by ABS, was a mess after that too. Since then the Renault has never gone to a circuit again. The end.
